One of the most important key technologies for the information society are database and information systems. Research areas of interest involve deductive, object oriented, and multimedia databases. Furthermore, knowledge modelling and an efficient query handling are especially relevant. Digital libraries are an example of an important application area. The department aims at a rapid know-how transfer from research to everyday applications by implementing prototypes as demonstrations for computer fairs and customers.
