Contents
The courses in this specialization lay the foundation for a successful study of computer science. In addition to an introduction to computer science, the curriculum also includes courses on algorithms and data structures and theoretical computer science to create a deeper understanding of complex concepts.
Advanced lectures on software engineering and databases specifically prepare students for professional practice in the field of computer science. The mathematics courses introduce concepts of linear algebra, analysis, as well as probability and statistics.
Together with students of human medicine at the newly established Medical Faculty, students gain comprehensive insights into the fundamentals of medicine and have the opportunity to exchange knowledge with medical students. They receive an introduction to the anatomy, physiology, and biochemistry of the human organ systems. Additionally, students also learn the basics of clinical medicine, pathophysiology, and epidemiology.
A clinical application project provides an opportunity to apply the acquired medical knowledge with the methods of informatics in a practical manner and gain experience in independent scientific work.
A diverse range of elective courses presents the facets of medical informatics, ranging from simulating biological processes to medical signal processing and addressing questions related to big data and machine learning.

Students can freely choose from this selection of specialization courses and thus individually shape their studies by focusing on their own areas of interest.
Career outlook
Digitization is impacting all areas of daily life, especially in the field of medicine. Graduates of medical informatics programs have excellent career prospects, as outlined in the following fields of work.
In addition to a specialized career, graduates also have opportunities for management positions.
In medical research, medical informatics supports tasks such as simulating biological processes and visualizing medical data. The increasing challenge of handling large amounts of data, as seen in genomics research and neuroscience, can only be efficiently addressed through the targeted use of modern IT technologies.
The development of software-intensive medical systems requires a solid understanding of both medicine and computer science methods. Fields of work include areas such as Mobile Health or eHealth, as well as the development of modern medical products.
The modern healthcare sector increasingly relies on IT systems for the collection and analysis of patient data in both clinical settings and billing processes. Possible fields of work involve the planning, development, and operation of these systems. Potential employers include insurance companies, hospitals, and healthcare authorities.
Thanks to their comprehensive education in general computer science, graduates also have career opportunities in traditional computer science fields.
