?

On Thursday, 18 April 2024, Professor Claudia Traidl-Hoffmann met Klaus Holetschek, parliamentary group leader of the CSU parliamentary group, for an exchange on the topic of health in climate change, pandemic prevention and resilience. Professor Traidl-Hoffmann presented the parliamentary group leader with newly acquired infrastructure for pandemic management, which was officially inaugurated on 11 March 2024 (link). The laboratory equipment was acquired as part of the EU-funded PerForM-REACT project. The funding for the joint project application by the Virology and Environmental Medicine departments of Helmholtz Munich (the latter also located in Augsburg) totalled EUR 18.5 million and is part of the European COVID-19 aid programme ‘REACT-EU’ and the European Regional Development Fund. EUR 4.6 million of this was invested in cooperation with Augsburg University Hospital in the development of analysis capacities and research infrastructure in the environmental medicine laboratory.

‘With the new equipment, we can now enable high-throughput biomarker research, among other things. Biomarkers are like early warning systems in the body. They help us to predict the severe progression of diseases and guide therapies. We'll keep at it! For people's health!’ says Professor Traidl-Hoffmann.
