Santos is Professor of Sociology at the prestigious Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS) in Porto Alegre, Brazil, and has developed an original combination of sociological research and sociological documentary films. In his research, Professor Santos deals with topics such as the transnational circulation of sociological knowledge and theories, violence, childhood and youth, favelas, slavery, the everyday life of offshore workers on oil platforms and the lives of black and indigenous women, often in the form of sociological documentary films.

We cordially invite you to the Series of Events ‘Sociology meets Documentary Film’, in which five sociological documentary films by Prof. Dr Hermílio Santos will be screened and discussed from 05.12.24 to 16.01.25 (Thursdays).
