Manuel C. Kathan and Sebastian Utz from the Chair of Public Finance with a focus on Climate Finance publish their new research paper in the international journal Finance Research Letters.

Just two weeks after the official kick-off of BRaVE, the doctoral students were invited to a workshop on 4 February to sharpen their focus on interdisciplinary collaboration and gain new insights. Prof. Dr. Ulli Vilsmaier from the Responsive Research Collective led the students through this enriching workshop.

To achieve the climate targets, we will have to actively remove CO? from the atmosphere in the future. Prof. Dr. Ottmar Edenhofer, Director and Chief Economist of the Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), gave a fascinating lecture at the Centre for Climate Resilience in which he highlighted both the challenges and opportunities of so-called negative emissions and CO? pricing.

The University of Augsburg belongs to the top 10 percent of places to study business and economics in Germany. According to the current WirtschaftsWoche ranking, the university is ranked 18^th among German universities and 24^th among universities in the D-A-CH region.

From September 30 to October 2, the congress "New Cultural Geography" will take place at the University of Augsburg. It is organized by the Chair of Urban Climate Resilience and is themed "Speculative geographies of the new climate regime". The call for sessions is now online.

We are pleased to announce a Special Issue entitled “Sustainable and resilient retail supply chains” as part of the Retail Operations stream at the EURO 2025 conference in Leeds.

With the new BRaVE research network, the University of Augsburg is aiming to research vulnerabilities arising from the effects of climate change and develop solutions for adaptation. The network was officially launched on the 23rd of January 2025 and involves twelve interdisciplinary sub-projects.

Prof. Dr. Marco Wilkens, Chair of Finance and Banking, and Alina Kaltenberg, research associate at the Chair of Political Science with a specialization in climate politic, are representing the Center for Climate Resilience (CCR) at the University of Augsburg at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. The focus of this year's climate conference is on the huge financing gaps for the transformation away from fossil energy sources, for adaptation to climate change and for climate-related losses and damage.

Our guest will be Prof. Dr. Wojciech Malecki from the University of Wroclaw in Poland (Institute for Polish Philology). With his lecture ‘The Impact of Creative Climate Communication: Emotions, Activism, and Mental Health’ he will open up new perspectives on environmental and climate communication. The lecture will be held in English.

We are pleased that the Federal Cabinet has approved the appointment of ZfK board member and environmental physician Prof. Dr. Claudia Traidl-Hoffmann to the WBGU advisory board for a further four-year term. The appointment took place on 1 November 2024 by Federal Ministers Steffi Lemke and Bettina Stark-Watzinger.

The University of Augsburg is once again participating in the Public Climate School from the 4th to the 8th of November 2024. During the PCS week, research institutes from around Germany open their doors to the public in an effort to provide sound scientific knowledge about the climate crisis. In Augsburg, simulation games, lectures, film screenings, and other interactive events will take place.

‘National and international water policy must adapt to ongoing, accelerated changes in the global water cycle and respond to them quickly and comprehensively’ is the key message of the WBGU report. On 11 October 2024, the WBGU presented the report to Federal Environment Minister Steffi Lemke and the Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Mario Brandenburg, and presented it at the Federal Press Conference.
